A SEASONED COUNSELOR
|
Life is hard and relationships are challenging. People face stress, anxiety, depression, busyness, heart ache, and various other challenges of which we may or may not be able to handle well. Sometimes we get trapped in a horrible pit and lose hope. It can feel scary like we are stuck in quicksand and there is no one there to help. This is the place where I often meet my clients.
I have worked in the mental health field since 2016 providing psychotherapy services for individuals, couples, and families, in outpatient settings via face-to-face and through telemedicine. I primarily utilize therapeutic approaches such as, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), attachment-centered, affect-focused, Psychodynamic, Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), and Parts work My priority is to provide a safe space where you can really feel seen and heard and not feel alone with what you are going through. Together we will slow down and explore what you are feeling and experiencing in order to stabilize and work toward positive change. |
COMMITTED TO MINISTRY
|
Being involved in ministry has led to some of the most memorable and rewarding experiences of my life. I’ve had the honor of sharing my faith, baptizing believers, and helping build a church in Mexico.
My ministry journey started when I was nine years old and accepted Christ as my personal lord and savior. From that point, I did what I thought God wanted me to do - strive to be a good person. During that younger period of my life, failures felt like I didn’t love God enough and that He didn’t want to be near me. But it was in high school that I learned that God focuses more on our heart than our shortcomings. He is a perfect father who loves us deeply and desires for us to have a robust relationship with him. Out of that awareness, my desire to know him and serve him grew. I was hungry for the Word and started helping where I saw need, which started with setting up and taking down for service. I was then encouraged to serve with the children’s ministry and help with vacation bible school (VBS), teach children’s bible study, and become a camp counselor. During high school, I was surprised to find that worship music didn’t have to be dry and boring. I learned that it could be fun, moving and honoring to God. As a result, my appreciation for worship music led me to sing on the worship team in high school, college, and in the Navy. During my service, I sadly witnessed the pursuit of emptiness and observed many severely wounded and broken relationships of fellow sailors. My heart ached to see marriages suffer and die, and to see people hurt and lost without a clue of what to do. This became a catalyst for me to pursue psychotherapy as a method of bringing comfort to those who are hurting and desiring to help people build thriving relationships. After the Navy, I started serving at my local church again and soon became a leader in my church’s college ministry. From there, I collaborated with the college pastor and other leaders to determine goals and methods for cultivating and encouraging positive life changes. I also facilitated a variety of small groups where I assisted in clarifying theological principles and strengthening life skills My current focus of ministry is helping people have a more fulfilling relationship with God, themselves, and others. I believe that God’s desire for me is to lovingly help others cope with their burdens and struggles. I keep in mind, Galatians 6:2, “Bear one another’s burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ” (English Standard Version). |
COMMITTED TO FAMILY
|
I wouldn’t be who I am today without my family. When I was a child, we rarely went to church but my parents raised me with Christian values which gave me a foundation for how I see my value, the value of others and the impact of family.
Sadly, when I was 17 years old, my dad died of a massive heart attack. Even though this was a very painful and difficult time, I was able to experience Gods comfort and my extended family and friends support while we were grieving, feeling lost and depressed. Family can provide some of our biggest support and when family sticks together we can get through tremendously difficult circumstances Now I have been blessed to have a family of my own. I’ve been married to my beautiful wife and best friend for over nine years and we have two children. My step son, whom I love as my own, is very bright, works hard at school and enjoys playing soccer. My daughter is full of spirit and personality and has a blast singing, dancing and doing gymnastics. My greatest memories come from spending time with them. Oh, and I have two rescue cats, Zorii and Rosie, who bring a lot of joy to our family. |
